Are you interested in earning your CDL in Pennsylvania? If so, we have good news. According to the Reading Eagle, there is an increased demand for truck drivers in Berks County.
The Berks County Workforce Development Board, whose purpose is to identify long-term workforce development needs of the community and propose strategies to meet them, identified a "severe shortage of qualified CDL drivers that threatens regional growth." In the 30 days preceding July 6, there were 478 active online job postings for CDL drivers in Berks County. There is projected to be a substantial growth in both new and replacement job openings for CDL drivers over the next 10 years in the greater Reading area.
With annual wages for tractor-trailer truck drivers ranging from $37,000 to $59,400, a CDL certification may be the surest credential and shortest path for job seekers to attain employment at family sustaining wages. Because of the shortage of qualified CDL-certified candidates, wages have even gone up. Many companies are now offering sign-on bonuses in excess of $5,000!
